Alchemical Vessel

These vessels based on Alchemists flasks or Alembics, are a further exploration of ideas about transformation. In this case the journey from base matter into spirit is represented by contrasting black and white liquids caught in a moment of chemical reaction. The symbols of the white dove and the black crow are hovering above a bubbling pool of glass that refers to the classical alchemists drawings depicting the states of Nigredo (the darkening) and Solutio (the whitening). Alchemy portrayed here is as much about the nature of material as it is to do with the transformation of the human soul.
