Saturday 22 February and Saturday 29 February

9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Cast and Finish is a workshop taught over 2 consecutitve Saturdays.

It is designed to enable you to quickly work out an idea and make a mould in one day. We will fire your work in the kiln during the week and students will return the following Saturday to work on de-moulding and finishing their glass.

We ask that you come with an idea. You may for example arrive with a silicone mould that you would like to pour wax into or a texture that you would like to take an imprint from and translate into glass in an open mould form.

We will walk you through casting in 3D using a lost wax casting method or using clay or wax to create an open cast mould.

You will learn how to work quickly and to test your ideas with valuable input from Max’s extensive experience in mould making and glass casting.

You should have some familiarity with the mould making process as your time will be spent working and producing rather than on the science or the theory behind the glass casting.

This will be a course in cast glass and will use the techniques that Max Jacquard has developed within his studio. The second half of the course will focus on de-moulding  and finishingyour work. You will learn a range of finishing techniques using the flatbed, the dremel tool, hand held air tool, and the lathe. Some of the techniques taught will enable you to do finishing on your glass in your home studio.

Coffee and tea will be provided. Please bring a packed lunch as the studio is located on a farm and is not near to shops.
