Exploring Colour and Texture in Casting
Tutor : Max Jacquard
April 24, 25 and 26 2020

Cast crystal relief taken from fire pit in oxfordshire
This three-day course looks at the relationship between the form and texture of an object and the ways it can be coloured using frit, powder, oxides and glass eggshells.
We will work with a variety of clear glass material including optical crystal and nonlead glass nuggets; You will make tests using found, self-made and collaged textures and creating forms using silicone moulds, clay, lost wax casting and open cast techniques. Students will learn how to mix their own colour through the exploration of mixing colour in self-made crucibles.
We will discuss the psychology of colour in glass and how it reacts to light. Students will immerse themselves in their own journey of discovery using the initial quick firings for experimentation and feedback. Results from the second firings will be posted on or can be collected after the course.
This workshop will suit relative beginners or those wishing to develop and further their own personal repertoire of techniques and glass qualities.
