The theme of Alchemy and transformation of materials was taken a stage further by removing the obvious symbolism and retaining the black and white glassy liquids. These are created by pouring the glass into the mould from a flowerpot in a technique described by Max as ‘frit tinting’. The casting of the two halves of the flask and subsequent fusing together takes place over a very short time period so all of the resultant bubbles and veils are captured in the glass like an internal landscape. This is like a detailed record of the transformation process frozen in time. Finally the two flasks have been linked together with a tube suggesting the symbiotic nature of the contrasting forces of darkness and light.
