Scholar Stone

The series is in collaboration with German artist Marion Mack. The idea of fluid water forms inside rock comes from a study of the IChing and refers to Empedocles Philosophy. Empedocles was a Greek philosopher, scientist and healer who lived in Sicily in the fifth century B.C who taught that all matter is comprised of four ‘roots’ or elements of earth, air, fire and water. Scholar Stones proposes an aesthetic that combines these elements in one form.
