1 Day Pure Glass Composition 20 October 2024
Imagine what you could design if given the chance to arrange fragments of glass to your liking without a casting mould. On this one day course, students will have the chance to create unique patterns using billets and fritted glass without the use of an investment mould. In this way textures and shapes form the composition laid out 2 dimensionally onto a surface of kiln paper and ceramic fiber before going into the kiln.
On this course you will learn how to cut glass to the forms you will use in your composition. This will be done using the crizzling technique in which glass is heated and cooled breaking into thousands of pieces as well as traditional glass billet cutting. Visual outcomes based upon the placement of the glass will be discussed allowing students to consider glass effects.
Finally, we will provide students with different kiln programming schedules with the outcome of understanding how the heating and cooling cycle of the kiln will influence the glass melt.
Experience level - you do not need experience with glass to take this course. If you are experienced this will provide you with further skill sets
Kiln firings take several days. Once your work has come out of the kiln we will demould, finish and ship your finished work to you or you can come and collect it.
